What will the weather be like at Seafest?

Kaikoura has a temperate climate, with warm summers and cool winters. The best time to visit Kaikoura is during the summer months, from December to February, when temperatures range from 20-25°C. However, the weather can be unpredictable, so it is always a good idea to bring warm clothing and rain gear, just in case.

Kaikoura weather during October is generally cool to mild with day temperatures up to 18°C (64°F) and potentially below 8°C (46°F). Some would describe it as moderately chilly (but comfortable – depending where you’re from) with a sea breeze.

By Car

Driving to Kaikoura Seafest is a great option if you want to explore the surrounding areas. The event is held at Takahanga Domain, on the Esplanade, Kaikoura. From Christchurch, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive to Kaikoura. The drive is very scenic and you will enjoy the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and the Kaikoura Mountains. There are several car rental companies in Christchurch if you don’t have your own vehicle.
Once you arrive in Kaikoura, you can park your car at the designated parking area and walk to the event venue.

By Bus

If you prefer not to drive, you can take a bus to Kaikoura Seafest. There are several bus companies that offer services from Christchurch to Kaikoura (InterCity and Atomic Shuttles being two options). The journey takes about 3 hours and the buses are comfortable and air conditioned.
Once you arrive in Kaikoura you can walk to the event venue from the bus stop. It is recommended to check the bus schedule beforehand and book your tickets in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

By Train

The Coastal Pacific train runs from Christchurch to Picton, with a stop in Kaikoura. The train journey offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the mountains.
